Aes encapsulates warmth through a glow that emerges between layers of depth, shadow, and atmosphere.

The piece is built upon rich tones of walnut, umber and burnt earth, creating a surface filled with depth and warmth. Space plays an important role, allowing the eye to move slowly across the canvas and settle within the layers of the work. Toward the centre, a concentrated gesture introduces movement, light and energy, drawing contrast against the darker surrounding tones and giving the composition its sense of balance and presence.

The title comes from the Latin word aes, meaning bronze, copper or metal. That sense of softened metallic warmth became central to the piece as it evolved. Richly layered and burnished over time, carrying warmth, depth and presence through every surface and mark.

Aes shifts beautifully with the light and surrounding space, revealing subtle changes in the painting's tones and atmosphere throughout the day. It brings depth, warmth and sophistication into an interior while maintaining a strong sense of calm and balance.

Measuring 81 x 107cm, Aes is painted with premium acrylic on 12oz cotton duck canvas, finished with a walnut timber float frame.

It is signed on the back and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

At 81cm wide by 107cm tall, Aes works well as a feature piece on a mid-sized wall, ideally one at least 1.2 metres across to give the composition room to breathe. Its portrait format suits placement above a console, in a study or beside a fireplace, where its walnut and copper tones can anchor the space. Warm ambient lighting brings out the metallic glow within the surface. Aes suits contemporary, warm minimalist or transitional interiors with a grounded, earthy colour scheme.

Aes's walnut, umber and burnt earth tones pair beautifully with warm timbers such as blackbutt or American oak, alongside brushed bronze or aged brass hardware that echoes its copper glow. A boucle cushion in caramel or rust echoes the palette, while a warm limestone or terracotta floor grounds the setting. Linen curtains in a soft neutral shade let the surface stand out without competing. Aes also sits well beside leather furniture or a dark timber console.
