Caligo embraces beauty in atmosphere, depth and obscurity, expressed through a layered abstract composition that shifts between shadow and light.
Deep tones of charcoal, ink and midnight blue form the foundation of the work, creating a surface that feels expansive and enveloping. As the composition evolved, gestures of white and softened neutrals emerged across the darker ground, bringing movement, contrast and a sense of light finding its way through haze.
The title comes from the Latin word caligo, meaning mist, darkness or obscurity, a feeling that became evident as this work unfolded. There is a stillness within the piece, though beneath it sits movement, depth and emotion held within the layers.
Caligo reflects that quieter, more contemplative side the way colour and form can influence the atmosphere of a space.
This work the ability to anchor an interior with mood and sophistication, while still carrying softness and restraint through the movement of the composition.
Measuring 90 x 90cm, Caligo is framed in a chocolate timber float frame and painted with premium acrylic on 12oz cotton duck canvas.
It is signed on both the front and back and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
